From the day he entered the race, Joe Biden was the great hope of the Democratic establishment to spare them from the horrifying prospect of a 2020 race between The Donald and Bernie Sanders.
Today, that same establishment wants Joe out of the race.
Why has Biden suddenly become an albatross?
His feeble debate performances and fifth-place finish in New Hampshire all but ensure Joe will not be the nominee, and if he stays in, he will siphon off votes in Nevada and South Carolina that would go to candidates who might put together a majority and stop Sanders.
The panic of the establishment is traceable to the new political reality.
With popular-vote victories in Iowa and New Hampshire, Sanders has largely united the left-wing of his party and displaced Biden as the front-runner and favorite for the nomination.
Meanwhile, the non-socialist wing of the party has failed to coalesce around a champion to stop Sanders and is becoming ever more splintered.
In Nevada, Sanders now has three moderate challengers.
Biden, “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg, who ran second in New Hampshire, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who ran third and took votes that might have given Buttigieg a win in the Granite State.
Biden, Buttigieg and Klobuchar are all now headed for the Nevada caucuses on Feb. 22, where Sanders is favored. And all three will be going on to South Carolina, a state into which billionaire Tom Steyer has poured millions of dollars.
Sanders, however, is not without his own problems.
Not only is he anathema to the establishment, he cannot wholly unite his party’s left-wing until his senatorial soulmate Elizabeth Warren gets out. Though she ran a poor fourth in New Hampshire, Warren is also going to Nevada to offer herself as a unity candidate.
But as Biden’s hour is up, so is hers. And if she is not out of the race before Super Tuesday on March 3, she risks being beaten in her own home state of Massachusetts.
Where does this leave the Democratic field?
Two candidacies, Warren’s and Biden’s, are in hospice care.
Two candidates, Buttigieg and Klobuchar, competing to be the moderate alternative to Sanders, are in danger of canceling each other out.
Two candidates, Michael Bloomberg and Tom Steyer, are billionaires who will be battling on Super Tuesday to crush the scourge of billionaires, Bernie Sanders.
Bloomberg, the three-term mayor of New York, upon whom the establishment has begun to look like the last best hope of stopping Sanders, has already dumped a third of a billion dollars into his campaign
His poll numbers have risen accordingly, and he is probably the strongest challenger to Sanders now, because, with his $60 billion fortune, he can sustain himself and his organization through the convention.
But would Sanders lose gracefully to a plutocrat who deployed his billions to deny him a nomination Sanders has sought for half a decade?
Would Bernie Bros, who believe they were cheated out of the nomination in 2016, accept defeat and support a billionaire they believe robbed them of a prize they thought they had won fairly?
Bloomberg is now facing more serious matters as a candidate in a party of minorities. Here is an excerpt from an audiotape of Mayor Mike at a 2015 conference in Aspen, Colorado, addressing the crime-fighting tactic of stop and frisk that he used for years as mayor.
“Ninety-five percent of your murders and murderers and murder victims fit one M.O. You can just take the description, Xerox it and pass it out to all the cops. They are male minorities, 15 to 25,” said Bloomberg.
“One of the unintended consequences is people say, ‘Oh, my God, you are arresting kids for marijuana that are all minorities.’ Yes, that’s true. Why? Because we put all the cops in minority neighborhoods. … Why do we do it? Because that is where all the crime is. … And the way you get the guns out of the kids’ hands is to throw them up against the wall and frisk them.”
Midweek, it was learned that Bloomberg, during the economic crisis in 2008, said that getting rid of “redlining” — a policy by which bankers routinely deny mortgages to low-income largely minority neighborhoods circled in red as risky — was to blame for the collapse.
In remarks at Georgetown University in 2008, Bloomberg said:
“It all started back when there was a lot of pressure on banks to make loans to everyone. … Redlining …was the term where banks took whole neighborhoods and said, ‘People in these neighborhoods are poor, they’re not going to be able to pay off their mortgages, tell your salesmen don’t go into those areas.'”
In presidential elections, Democratic candidates win 90-95% of the black vote. After revelations of his candid discussions of the merits of redlining and the benefits of stop and frisk, Bloomberg may have a tough time climbing that hill.

Biden served his useful purpose as a “political opponent,” the investigation of whom by the Trump administration justified the impeachment of Trump. The case was readymade to eliminate both of them from the field, but in the end it only took out Joe.

It really needs to be hammered home that Bernie has the best chance (Perhaps a near certainty) to beat Trump in the general election. And, of course, Bernie would have won in 2016. The establishment Democrats shouldn’t be able to say anything on the internet without people throwing this in their faces.
Any attempt by the DNC to interfere with Bernie gaining the nomination puts into context what they really hate about Trump.
But both Trump and Sanders are anomalies and even throwbacks. Neither represents an incipient force in American politics that shows much evidence of seeing any other champions once they are gone from the scene. For 40 years people with any kind of humanity have been systematically purged from the political machines in the Western world’s mainstream parties. We have run out of politicians.
Can populist political forces emerge in the US with a first past the post system and a federal structure? There are problems in the American health care system, BUT, comparisons to other countries is off-base. If you need a CT scan or other high-tech procedure here in the USA, you will get one, almost immediately.
In addition, ANYONE who shows up at a hospital emergency room WILL be treated without consideration of “who will pay the bill”. This is the case in ALL medical facilities that have emergency rooms and urgent care centers in the United States, and is mandated by law.
Our neighbor to the north, which has excellent medical staff, routinely rations CT scans and other high-tech procedures, as these machines and procedures are far less available due to cost considerations. You might have to wait 3 months for the same CT scan in Canada.
A number of years ago, Canadian hospitals were caught providing CT scans for veterinarians’ animals, while humans were on waiting lists for use of the machines. You see, veterinarians paid cash “up front” for use of the machines.
A dirty little secret of Canadian health care, is that some patients are referred to American border-city hospitals for treatment if they squawk loud enough. In addition, Canadian politicians and movers and shakers routinely come to the United States for medical treatment.
Look at Great Britain’s National Health Service which routinely rations health care as well as exacting death sentences on humans because of cost. Recently, a British subject (baby) was refused potentially life-saving treatment not only in Great Britain, but also in the United States. The parents had the money to pay for the treatment here in the United States, but Britain’s National Health Service would not allow the baby to leave. A similar situation is unfolding, as the “National Health Service” refuses to allow the parents to take their child to Italy for treatment. What kind of health-care is that?
Socialized health care is fine for cuts, scrapes, and bruises, but when it comes to high-tech procedures, there are always cost considerations. Anyone can see that government-imposed solutions almost never work.
It is interesting to note, that in Canada, Great Britain, and other “socialized medicine” countries, private supplemental health insurance is necessary in order to receive decent medical treatment.
The problem is not health care, but health INSURANCE and HMOs – Health Maintenance Organizations, which artificially mask the true costs of health care. “Health insurance” should be for catastrophic claims, not routine medical procedures.
Going back to a “fee for services” like in the pre-HMO days of medicine would be an improvement as there would be competition for health care services.
Two good examples of successful “fee for services” medicine are plastic surgery and laser refractive surgery (eyes). Both plastic surgeons and ophthalmologists offer discounts for their procedures. In fact, prices for these procedures are constantly dropping.
A good distinction can be made between HMOs and automobile insurance.
Automobile insurance pays for accidents and damage to vehicles, nothing more. If automobile insurance were run like HMOs, they would pay for vehicle maintenance,oil-changes and the like.
Yes, the American health-care system needs improvement, but socialized medicine is not the right approach.

Yes, even today it is not only possible, but is advisable to talk to the hospital and doctor’s billing departments about charges if you disagree with them or if you have problems with payment.
The “dirty little secret” is that, if you agree to a “payment plan” you are obligated for the total agreed-upon charges, BUT you can pay them as little as $5 per month and they will leave you alone and not dun you for more.
Being involuntarily unemployed and not having health insurance for a while, I was able to get substantial discounts for medical services after explaining my situation.
In some cases, the charges were totally waived.
This was not only for routine doctor visits, but for procedures performed in major medical centers. My primary care physician halved his charges and then some.
In many cases, you will get the “discounted” rate-the rate at which insurers and hospitals agree upon.
No, I did not avail myself of the medicaid system, but was considered to be a “private pay” patient.
For your information, president Trump is requiring hospitals to publicly submit lists of charges “for services rendered”. The hospitals are not happy about this, but will go along.

As for NON-catastrophic medical costs — checkups, screening and diagnostic procedures like X-rays and MRIs and CT scans, dental cleanings and fillings, most prescriptions — a universal basic income could be sufficient for a large majority of Americans to cover themselves (even at current inflated prices). By no means a complete solution, as for one thing it does not address the exorbitant prices that docs and hospitals charge for uncomplicated and often cursory perfunctory visits (such as simpler ER visits).
Nor would a meaningfully large UBI be cheap in its own right, just want to point ouat a UBI could and surely would be used to defray out-of-pocket medical expenses that many of us have trouble paying now.

Yes you can run up short term debt but at some point they want cash up front. You can get ER treatment but you can’t see a specialist or get medication.
It’s actually a myth that you can just switch to medicaid by becoming poor. It can be a long process and the gov doesn’t care if you need treatment asap. Some states like Kansas have turned down medicaid expansion out of ideological spite for the ACA.
Then there is the problem of retired people on medicare not be able to afford their medication. Some of these drug companies have billions in cash on hand but keep their prices high because our gov is too weak to stand up to them.
The whole system is a mess. Republicans are wrong for supporting the private system. I’m not saying that Democrats have all the answers but the status quo is unacceptable. Republicans need to divorce themselves from Wall St. and take a hard look at health care.

I think there was a conspiracy but it’s all speculation. I don’t buy that he did it on his own accord. It’s possible that Israel was involved but it’s also possible that they weren’t. He was highly intelligent and campaigned around the country using his own speeches for his vicious war. It had nothing to do with the Jews. In any event, without mass immigration of people who cannot earn enough to support themselves and their families, without taxpayer-funded benefits for noncitizens, and without hundreds of billions in unnecessary war profiteering each year, we definitely CAN afford to provide excellent medical insurance and care for all US Citizens.

The settlement was an abject failure because those who chose to work “toward the common good” and those who did not shared “equally” in the “bounty”. More and more people saw that they did not have to work, as the “reward” for those who did not work was the same as for those who did choose to work.

Your “pipe dream” of commonly owned resources will not work as those who put the effort and expenses to retrieve these “resources” deserve to be paid for their efforts, above and beyond that of those benefiting them without having “skin in the game”.
In fact, assuming that this is not all anti-Semitic propaganda (which would seem far-fetched, since the page does not even mention that the Bonnier family is Jewish), it seems that Jews own even more of the media in Sweden than they do in America.
I’m aware of the Bonnier family. They don’t have a monopoly on Swedish media and in fact they own a lot of US magazines like Outdoor Life that aren’t political.
I’m also aware that Swedish politics are dominated by Nordic leftists and if you nationalized their media you would make it even more leftist.
The Nordic leftists are just like our leftists in that they don’t care about what is true or not. In their minds a truly free media is dangerous because they believe that much of the world (esp info on race) needs to be censored.

There is no free speech and the Nordic leftists want to keep it that way. It has nothing to do with the Bonnier family. Our non-Jewish leftists would like similar laws.
Leftists don’t like debate or freedom of information. Their ideology is too unstable for open criticism. Take out the world’s Jews and that same problem remains. That’s why so many media outlets removed comments or heavily censor them. The leftist ideology is too fragile and leftists are aware of this and support censorship. Here in the US though we have rights that the leftists have to grudgingly work around. But don’t kid yourself, both Warren and Biden would ban this website in the name of equality if they could.
The logic of your statement depends on the frame of reference: whether Christ’s Kingdom is of this world or another.
In earthly terms Christian ethics sometimes don’t make sense, and may cost one’s life.
In the heavenly realm of divine righteousness, His words are life and salvation.
The Christian chooses between this world and God’s. He cannot have both. “Take up your cross and follow me.” One knows and loves Christ in this world, and joins Him eternally in the next.
