Sometime very soon—perhaps as you are hearing or reading this—the U.S. Supreme Court will, in the last month of its judicial term, bring forth a ruling on the constitutionality of Affirmative Action in college admissions.
This ruling will be the final act in the legal drama of the group Students For Fair Admissions (SFFA) suing Harvard and the University of North Carolina for discriminating against Asian applicants in their admissions processes.
The ruling, when it comes, will generate a great deal of noise but have very little practical effect. The evidence that college-admissions Affirmative Action is, in practice, just race favoritism, is made plain by numbers: by the discrepancies between what different races score on standardized tests and the numbers of each race granted admission to desirable colleges.
Those colleges are busily gaming their way out of trouble by the simplest method possible: They have stopped, or are stopping, the gathering of test scores. Without those test scores there are no numbers for comparison, so the admissions officers can proceed with what they like to call “holistic” admissions.
The word “holistic” here means, as anyone looking into the issue figured out long ago, “completely subjective.” Without those pesky test scores as evidence for their chicanery, they’ll be free to practice favoritism without the danger of lawsuits. It’s like dissolving the corpse of your murder victim in acid—a thing I strongly recommend should you ever be tempted to willful homicide. No evidence, no crime.
Notwithstanding the colleges have the situation well and truly gamed, Progressives are mad as hell about the lawsuits that prompted this ruling. This includes even some foreign progressives: the editors of the far-left Guardian newspaper in the U.K., for example.
The June 6th issue of that newspaper ran a headline reading, headline: Harvard affirmative action challenge partly based on Holocaust denier’s work Ed Pilkington [Tweet him] chief reporter for Guardian US.

Really? Reading down to the sixth paragraph of the piece I see this, edited quote:

That needs some extended commentary.
Full disclosure here: I have some personal acquaintance with Ron Unz. I’ve been the recipient of his hospitality and generosity. Regarding my opinions about his work, I refer you to the seventh segment in my August Diary last year.

Back to the Guardian piece … although not until I have noted what dreck that newspaper is, and always has been. I can remember fifty years ago in England, me and my peers laughing at it as “the Grauniad“ because of all the typos.
And just look at the diction of that article. “Screed,” … “neo-Nazi,” … “espousing views verging on,” … “problematic,” … I’d assume it was the product of a chatbot except that a chatbot could write better copy.
A hundred words in I made a bet with myself that before I got to the end, I’d have seen a reference to David Duke. Sure enough, there he is: an “influential figure on the extreme right”.
I haven’t heard about anything David Duke has done for a decade or two. Does anyone know where he is? Or even if he’s still alive? Yet to dimwitted British wokesters he’s “an influential figure,” a boogey-man whose very name sends them scurrying for protection to the Guardian.
All right, all right, what’s this 2012 Ron Unz article that has the Guardian clutching its pearls?
Dated November 28th, 2012, it is titled “The Myth of American Meritocracy.” You can read it for yourself at Unz.com, or in book form in Ron’s 2022 essay collection of the same title. It is in my opinion a small masterpiece of quantitative journalism.
A key part of it is summed up in a graph Ron made, included around twenty percent of the way into the article. The graph shows along the horizontal axis the years from 1990 to 2011.
The vertical axis shows the percentage of Asians enrolled for those years. There are different-colored lines for the nine most prestigious American universities, with an additional dotted line for the percentage of college-age students in the population.
That dotted line of course rises steadily across the years as the number of young Asians increases. Strangely, though, the percentages enrolled at eight of the nine elite universities flatlines between fourteen and eighteen percent.
The exception: Caltech, which maintained a strictly meritocratic admissions process through those years. The Caltech line on the graph tracks the dotted line of available Asian youngsters. Hmmm.
The facts Ron laid out, as for instance summarized in that graph, are hard to dispute. So how does the Guardian hack dispute them?
He—and yes, it’s a he, although I’d have guessed a she from the style and content—doesn’t dispute Ron’s facts. What he takes issue with is the passages later in the article where Ron takes a closer look at numbers of white students admitted, breaking them out by Jewish and Gentile. Ron finds what he calls a “quite extraordinary” over-representation of Jews:
Thus, although Asian-American high school graduates each year outnumber their Jewish classmates nearly three-to-one, American Jews are far more numerous at Harvard and throughout the Ivy League. Both groups are highly urbanized, generally affluent, and geographically concentrated within a few states, so the “diversity” factors considered above would hardly seem to apply; yet Jews seem to fare much better at the admissions office.
And this is probably where I should note that Ron is himself Jewish.
He is also by nature a relentless questioner, taking nothing at face value. And yes, that includes the most-publicized numbers for Holocaust fatalities, which Ron thinks is in the low hundreds of thousands. That, if true, is a dreadful enough statistic; but to the Guardian Ron’s estimate is “Holocaust Denial.”
And to be perfectly fair here, there are nits you can pick with Ron’s estimates for the Jewish numbers. Published college statistics don’t break out Jews and Gentiles, so you have to do estimates based on surname. That is both tiresome—scanning lists of hundreds of names trying to pick out the Jewish ones—and seriously inaccurate.
Here’s a student named Robinson. Were his forebears rubicund ale-swilling yeoman farmers in the fields of England, or were they Rubinsteins or Rabinowitzes in the shtetls of eastern Europe?
Ron mentions that problem himself in the article, but the Guardian gives him no credit for that. Nor does it give any credit at all to Ron’s constructive suggestion for squaring the circle of college admissions.
To square that circle, Ron uses rings. So I guess you could argue that he’s circling the circle … whatever.
The fundamental problem here is to find some middle way between meritocratic college admissions, which are unacceptable, and naked favoritism—otherwise known as “holistic” admissions—which ought to be unacceptable in a fair society.
The meritocratic option is unacceptable because of race differences in intelligence. On a strictly meritocratic admissions process, one that totally depended on results from tests of cognitive ability, the Ivy League would be forty percent East Asian, forty percent white, two percent black, and eighteen percent other—other Asian plus nonwhite Hispanics.
Americans at large wouldn’t accept that. Too much reality!
So here’s Ron’s solution. An elite college, he says, could select, say, fifteen or twenty percent of their students entirely on merit. These are the best of the best, the cream of the crop. Ron calls them the “inner ring.”
The other eighty to eighty-five percent of admitted students—the “outer ring” would be drawn by random lottery from the large pool of applicants judged capable of college-level work.
Quotes from Ron:
Requiring an excellent but hardly spectacular student to take his chances on winning a spot at Harvard or Yale hardly seems unreasonable …
And the result would be true diversity, rather than the dishonest and ridiculous pseudo-diversity of our existing system.
Well, I’ll leave you to read Ron’s 2012 article for yourself. It’s well worth your time for its own sake, and essential background if you’re going to be in conversations about the forthcoming Supreme Court decision.
(Footnote here: I said very unkind things about the Guardian there. Fair’s fair, though. I don’t know if this is still the case, but when I last had any reading acquaintance with the paper thirty-some years ago, it had a really good crossword puzzle.)

It’s only recently that people who equate merit with dark skin equate merit with dark skin. (Yep, that’s what I meant to say.) What a bizarre world we’re leaving for our children.
PS: the thing about surname analysis — even given the adjustments and corrections Ron made — is that it undercounts the number of Jewish admits. Because while many jews have names like Miller, Gordon, and Davis, vanishingly few wasp types are named Cohen or Shapiro. This makes Ron’s conclusions understated, if anything.

It is certainly true that many change their last names: Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas, Mike Wallace and Chris Wallace are just 4 examples.
Perhaps testing for the Cohen haplotype would give us a much better handle on the problem.
This may be a simple reflection of Jews being more likely to go in to humanities and law, while Asians go for technical degrees at Caltech.
I mean it’s not like Jews need the discrimination. They’ve got a multiple IQ point advantage over Asians and are shifted towards verbal IQ which comes more in handy at the Ivy Leagues. Asians also earn less than Jews. There are also way more Jews on the East Coast.

Thank you for the critique of The Guardian hack, but surely Ron already knows there is a range of proficiencies in newspaper writers, just as, on his own lightly moderated website, where, in his own words, some commenters are “deranged” “unhinged” or “wild-eyed” whereas other comments are “gems.” In any case, Mr. Derb, I think it was a bit dismissive to evaluate The Guardian in terms of its crossword. I give high marks to their movie reviews, and that alone is evidence to me that their writers run a range of abilities. Writers are not like, say, military parachute-riggers, where the motto is Get it right – – every time. (At least for now.)
Now that the colleges eschew academic merit and competency as a qualifier for admission, what is the nature of this “holistic” essence that they use in its place? The reports on your alleged ethnicity mix based on DNA analysis by Ancestry, Family Tree or 23 & Me? The optical density of your facial skin across the visible electromagnetic spectrum? Extraction and quantitative analysis of the skin pigments that predominate within the human species? The geolinguistic origins of the applicant’s family surname, with tiebreakers based on ethnic frequencies of given names? I would further ask what is the point to achieving these nebulous, unexplained quotas? Is possible future contributions to the whole of society based upon the ability to learn and perform within the most difficult subject matters a consideration whatsoever? I would hope we plan on keeping a few highly competent nuclear engineers, rocket scientists and brain surgeons around. I have seen the movie “Idiocracy” and that is a future I would not wish upon even this madcap country, though it roundly deserves the like and even funnier scenarios.
That girl would be better off going to another university. I just finished my master’s degree at the top economics university in Russia. Our curriculum was taught completely in English, devoid of any woke BS and our coursework was rigorous. What is more I was offered a full tuition scholarship as a US citizen (NB: even full tuition costs are more reasonable than the US at around $12,000 USD last I checked). I’m inclined to think that our program was better than any Ivy league bullshit. Harvard is just a brand. Moreover, the brand sucks. I don’t want to be anywhere near Jared Kushner and people like him. It’s time to build parallel institutions and relationships. BRICS will win in the end, so it’s worthwhile plugging into that somehow. That’s just my 2¢.

Jews’ real advantage over whites is their willingness and ability to manipulate the system combined with ethnocentrism. In essence, they play outside society’s rules because they don’t accept those rules as applying to them.
That worked remarkably well when they were the only talented outside group in white societies. But now that they have competition – Indians and Asians – they’re having trouble staying on top.

Actually, it’s not that difficult. You can just use Weyl Analysis—the statistics of particularly distinct surnames—to validate the cruder means of direct inspection. For example, virtually everyone named “Kim” is Korean, named “Nguyen” is Vietnamese, or named Cohen/Kaplan/Goldberg/etc. is Jewish.

However, from my perspective, the most absolutely striking aspect of the current situation wasn’t really covered in this column.
Almost three weeks ago, the Guardian, a MSM publication ran the following utterly explosive headline:
The looming SCOTUS decision that might ban Affirmative Action is ultra-high-profile and the claim that it was largely based upon the research of a “Holocaust Denier” is reasonably accurate.
One might expect this would have set off a MSM firestorm of unprecedented magnitude, reverberating in every possible outlet. Instead, virtually no one anywhere reported it, with this VDare column being almost the first exception.
Indeed, the same sort of headline could have been published anytime during the last five years, and if the MSM had made it a major issue, they might have dissuaded the Supreme Court from taking up the case and thereby saved Affirmative Action. But they did not. Only Britain’s Guardian, less influenced by American groups, finally did so. Apparently, saving Affirmative Action was less important than something else.

Kushner didn’t get in because he was Jewish; he got in (and then got into law school) because Daddy made some really big donations.
Jews get favored treatment for many reasons including so called “legacy” admissions and because many big donors are Jews. I think every Ivy League President but one is Jewish and of course they have a massively disproportionate leadership role in many colleges. It would be difficult to find many examples of Jews being discriminated against regarding college admissions and instead we would find the opposite.
Asians? Of course they can’t let them all in based on test scores because they would make up most of the admissions if they did. Meanwhile most White males continue to be marginalized and pushed down the system from the day they enter the first grade having to participate in public schools destroyed by feral blacks and a system that wants them to fail.
When I was a freshman at an Ivy League school many years ago, I came across a profile of my class that stated the class was 55% Jewish. That seemed incredibly high to me. Was there a decimal point missing? No, as I became more and more familiar with my classmates, the number appeared to be accurate. On the other hand, in those days when affirmative action was just a liberal wet dream, the number of blacks in my class was no more than 1%. Given black test scores, that was probably an appropriate percentage. Of course, Ivy League schools cannot offer athletic scholarships, so that might have played a part.
Some years ago while in Boston I took the subway to Cambridge and took a tour of Harvard. I remember the tour guide stopping at the statute of founder John Harvard and commenting on the university’s simple motto of Veritas (Truth). He then related that there were no portraits of John Harvard so no one knows what he looks like. The sculptor used some anonymous model. So the statue is a lie! Irony, anyone?

I can promise you that if you start the book, you will finish it. And if you finish it, you will no longer buy into media demonization of David Duke. Mr. Unz also commented favorably upon Duke’s autobiography in his article about white nationalism.
I read Unz’s article on Harvard’s discrimination quite a while back. He obviously had no problem with the number of Jews admitted IF THEY WERE THE BEST QUALIFIED, which his research indicated they were not. And better qualified Asians (and white males) lost spots to the Jewish students.
In the ’50s and ’60s the Boston Brahmin discriminated against everyone who was not a wealthy WASP and, like all colleges, they had “legacy” slots for children of big donors/ alumni. Probably the Harvard administration is mostly Jewish now and protects its children, just as the Boston Brahmin did.
I worked at a med school where 20 of 100 slots were set aside for Chinese/ Indians, 10 for Blacks, and 30 for legacy students (the least qualified academically. Presumably the other 40% went to the best non-Asians and non-Blacks by merit. I always felt it was unfair to cap Asians in the med school class; after taking the 20 best; why not let other Asians compete in the 40 slots by merit?
There are over twice as many Asians as Jews in America, both groups “over-achievers”. If a school is going to artificially cap Asians at 20% of the class, generally of the best merit, shouldn’t Jews be capped at 10% of the class, also of the best merit? I would have no problem with Jews and Asians competing in the 40% merit slots. (After the debacle of Covid, we definitely need smarter MDs).
The question is, what group scores the highest on entrance exams? Is it Jews is it East Asians?

When bars on Franklin Street would have 25 cent draft night, if the blacks showed up- most people left. This was in 1989- 1993. They were just too stupid, violent and PREDATORY.

If you banned affirmative action, legacy admissions, and brought down the Jewish percentages to much more appropriate levels, there would be a lot more spots available for both Asians and white Gentiles without connections. WGs should be around 50% of very high scorers on the SAT/ACT these days. I don’t think test scores should be the sole criteria for admission, but they should be much more important than anything else.
It’d be good if the elite of subsequent generations became less Jewish, since Jews have a tendency to live in a particular fantasy world in which Jews are a persecuted race, which has bad implications for how they run the country. I was raised on the East Coast and attended elite schools from K through law school (an Ivy law school). Of course, many of my classmates were Jewish. Some excelled academically, many didn’t. Twelve years ago I moved to a Western Red State and, late in life, obtained a master’s degree from the law school, part of a Pac 12 university. There were no jews in my program.
I would just like to observe (for the benefit, perhaps, of Ron’s largely coastal readership) that one of the reasons that there are more jews at Harvard than non-jewish Whites (proportionally, if not absolutely) is that non-jewish Whites in western Red States simply don’t want to go to Harvard, and don’t need to go to Harvard, even when academically qualified! You can’t make them apply, because they don’t want to go! There are plenty of good universities in our state with honors programs and great graduate programs. You can live at home if you want to and save on room and board. Tuition is a fraction of the Ivy League price. Student loans are anathema! Potential spouses abound! Jobs are plentiful in-state for graduates and you don’t have to leave your family (and extended family) to find meaningful work. And who would want to work for Citibank anyway?
On the other hand, coastal elitist jews are obsessed with getting their children into Harvard, etc. I know of one family, let’s call them the Cohen Family, who has organized itself into a factory to get its children into “Harvard”, to the point of assigning one kid to take the SATs, another to write the essay and another to go to the interview. God knows what other games they play. But you know they do. Its a life or death proposition. And it works: all three of their children went to an Ivy and they were never found out.

The REPORTED black/white gap on the SAT is huge and yet the actual gap is likely much larger, as it is probable the test administrators use affirmative action scoring. I recently signed up at collegeboard.org so i could see the application form for the SAT and they do indeed ask for your race and give you 6 choices. Now why do they need to know your race unless it’s to “help” the non-white/asians.?
This affirmative action scoring has another effect besides the obvious one. It means that lots of whites and asians list themselves as black and that also boosts the black scores.
There was a brief mini-scandal back, I think, in 1979, when a Black athletic scholarship student from the Caribbean in a work-study program at Columbia University in NYC had to work in that college’s admissions office as his job. He soon noticed that the admissions administrators, most of whom were Jewish, quite openly favored applications from Jewish students and made no effort to hide this fact within the confines of the office. The young man was struck by this, found it unfair, and made it public. There was outrage in the press, of course, and accusations of anti-Semitism against the whistleblower began to fly. But it all died down quickly, naturally. I don’t know what ever became of the young man.
This issue is part and parcel of an organized, coordinated attack on the white Western European Races and the Institutions it created. The Education System being one of those Institutions. I picked journalism as a major in college. Most of my professors and fellow students were liberal. I felt very out of place. I really didn’t like them and thought to myself if I got a job in mainstream journalism, I would have to spend the rest of my life around that kind of person and decided to move over to accounting.
I’m 67 now and near the end of my career working in accounting. I felt that I had more in common with my coworkers than I would have going into journalism. I also felt I did something worthwhile with my life. I’m happy I picked the road I did.

Basically Lynn debunks the IQ studies done by MacDonald, Storfer, Herrstein- Murray. You only quoted less than half of what Lynn said. Now I’m going to quote the part of Lynn’s paper you didn’t quote.
“Despite the widespread consensus on the high Jewish verbal ability, not all studies have shown that Jews have a higher verbal IQ than gentiles. This only deals with VERBAL IQ. So according to Lynn, Ashkenazi VERBAL IO is 107,5 Since Ashkenazi Jews do poorly in the VISUOSPATIAL portion of IQ test, the whole IQ of Ashkenazi Jews has to be LOWER than 107.5. Lynn gives the IQ ( verbal plus visuospatial IQ) of American Ashkenazi 107. and Israeli Ashkenazi 103.

The difficulty is in trying to separate “private” from “public” discrimination. Don’t think it can be done. So just allow all discrimination, like civilized people always did since forever. 5. “Merit” cont. — This discussion also rests upon biases of the elite paper-vapor class as to what is most meritorious.
