The song was actually released in May but didn’t go on YouTube as a video until last Friday, July 14. The video has news clips of the Floyd rioters trashing stores and assaulting police. Other clips show an attempted convenience store robbery and other apparent crimes.

The video also uses the courthouse of Maury County, TN as a backdrop. The Post’s Scribner tells us that a black guy suspected of having raped a white girl was lynched there, from the courthouse balcony, back in 1927.

A channel devoted to country music videos has pulled the video out of rotation after accusations that it promotes racism and violence. But “Try That in a Small Town” has also leaped to the top of many streaming charts, and top Republicans are defending Aldean, who insists the song has nothing to do with race.
As if there is anything in today’s U.S.A. that “has nothing to do with race”! But I guess Aldean is just saying what his recording-company handlers tell him to say.

For goodness’ sake: We all know that, to a fair first approximation, all street crime in the U.S.A. is committed by blacks.
As for that lynching: Is a Country singer supposed to research the history of a building a hundred years back before he poses in front of it?
And as I’ve told you before, lynching was no respecter of races. Blacks lynched blacks, whites lynched whites. In Clarksville, sixty miles north of the infamous courthouse, a white man thought to have raped a black woman was lynched by a black mob in 1914. The coroner’s jury decided it was a justifiable homicide and freed the black lynchers.
Truly, the past is another country. To appreciate that fact, you need some imagination—some ability to think about things in other than state-approved cookie-cutter stereotypes.
Our Ruling Class doesn’t rise to that standard.
This fuss over Jason Aldean and his song is in a long, long line of descent from one of the oldest social divides in human history: the one between town and country. Storytellers have been making fun of Country Bumpkins and City Slickers all the way back to the ancient Greek dramatists, at least.
That’s enough time for some peculiar twists and turns to have developed. Consider for example today’s U.S.A.
Our big cities now are dominated by Good People: blacks, progressive whites, petty criminals oppressed by poverty, and lunatics in need of community care.
There’s a seasoning of Bad People: cops, of course, some wealthy non-progressives like Donald Trump, a petit-bourgeoisie of small storekeepers and franchisees.
They have no weight, though; it’s Good People—blacks and Progressive whites—who call the shots.
The problem here is that not many of those Good People are smart—for sure not smart enough to think through the consequences of their policies.
For example: Petty criminals are Good People just struggling to put food on their families’ tables. It follows that punishing them for their petty crimes is wrong, wrong. Ergo, they’re not getting punished.
And the cops who once deterred and arrested those Good People no longer want to do so because they fear ending up in the dock themselves—like Derek Chauvin.
Here’s a story from CBS News last Fall: “Chicago Police Department struggles as burnt-out cops quit, with some heading to suburbs. [October 11, 202] Since 2019, the story tells us, 3,300 officers retired, resigned, were discharged, were killed in the line of duty, or were fired. From that date up to last October, around 1,600 officers have been hired—half the number of the departures.
It’s the same in New York City, we get regular reports in the local news. Probably it’s the same in all our big cities.
More crime, fewer cops. Add to that the closing, because of unrestrained shoplifting, of retail drug stores that city inhabitants depend on for their daily supplies.
Stupid policies, bad outcomes. Along with normal values, another thing being inverted here is those ancient tropes of stupid Country Bumpkin and sharp-witted City Slicker. At any rate, looking at our major urban centers today, you have to think that what we have in charge there are City Bumpkins.
If you want an example of this strange new genus, the City Bumpkin, I offer you the current Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams.
His Honor is clueless to a degree that it’s hard not to find comical. Mayor Adams might indeed have stepped out of a play by Aristophanes. I recently related the humiliation he suffered at the hands of New York’s suburban counties—country slickers, near enough—when he tried to unload thousands of illegal aliens on them.
That’s Mayor Adams’ most pressing problem right now: not how the city can afford a thirteen-million-dollar payout to Antifa rioters who got their hair mussed [ NYC agrees to pay $13M—or nearly $10K each—to protesters beaten, arrested in 2020 Black Lives Matter demonstrations, NY Post, July 21, 2023], not his dwindling police force, not neighborhood drugstores closing all over because of shoplifting. No, it’s the illegal aliens swarming into the city: more than ninety thousand since last Spring, fifty-five thousand of them still resident[New York City Tells Migrants There’s ‘No Guarantee’ of Finding Help Here, NYT, July 19, 2023].
Fifty-five thousand is more people than can be got into Yankee Stadium. Where can the Mayor put them all?
The city does have shelters for homeless people, but they were already full when the illegals showed up: fifty thousand native vagabonds right there, for a total hundred thousand city residents with no place to live but what the city provides for them.
Most of those citizens living in shelters are crazy people or addicts. Under a rational government they would be in asylums or jails. All Good People believe, however, that it is wrong—wrong!—to lock someone up against his will, unless of course he’s a Bad Person with wrong opinions.
The Mayor is playing it by ear, desperately juggling his tiny stock of options in hopes of looking effective. Balls in the air this week have included:
- Limiting adult illegals to sixty days of city shelter, after which they’ll have to re-apply. What happens if, after sixty days, there’s no shelter for them? TBD.
- Printed fliers in English and Spanish to be handed out at the southern border warning wetbacks that New York City is really, really expensive and they should look at other locations.
This program has hit somewhat of a snag, however: neither federal authorities nor the National Guard is willing to hand out the fliers [ National Guard refuses to hand out NYC’s pamphlets telling migrants not to come, ‘consider another city’, NY Post, July 20, 2023] Solution? TBD.
Nicole Gelinas, in the New York Post, July 19th, spelled out the cost of all this: Social-services spending under Mayor Adams soars thanks to the migrant crisis .
Executive summary: New York can afford all these illegals only by cutting back on every other kind of spending—schools, sanitation, police, Medicaid, etc.
And in fact Adams is already doing that. Soon the city will be being run mainly for the benefit of people who have no proper legal right to be here.

Adams has never offered an answer to the obvious question: What’s the strategy to move migrants out of temporary shelter?
That question may be an obvious one to you, Ma’am, but to a City Bumpkin like Adams, it’s way down the obvious list.

I haven’t followed the chemical spill in E. Palestine, OH, in awhile but since the residents are 95% white they were getting almost no help from the Biden regime and I believe this trend will likely continue.
So if the Democrats permanently hold the presidency, which is very likely with mail in voting, and recapture and hold Congress and given the open and demonic hatred the Jew led Democrats have for right of center white people you could potentially see a reverse Khmer Rouge policy desired by “Crake”.
There are two main nonproductive groups in this country. One is a large underclass, mostly black and Hispanic with a minority of whites, which lives off welfare and crime. The other is a small class of wealthy elites, mostly white with a minority of Jewish people and other nonwhites, who have upper-level government positions. They are the American version of the Russian nomenklatura under Marxism. Right below them there is an upper middle class of American apparatchiks. You can also add in here people who inherited their wealth, the trustafarian types.
These two groups have formed a political alliance against the productive segment of the population. You can’t get much more productive than growing the food that keeps people from starving, so the rural areas and small towns engaged directly or indirectly in agriculture are certainly a target of this alliance. So is anyone else who derives their income from the private sector.
Though this is an alliance, it is an uncomfortable one. Though they both mostly reside in big cities, the elites keep their underclass allies at arm’s length. They live, work, and shop in areas with their own private security and send their children to expensive private schools. They pretend there is no black crime problem while making certain they never find themselves taking a stroll through a black inner-city neighborhood late at night.

This is an amazing story but where can I find anything about it? When I Google “white man lynched Clarksville TN 1917” nothing popped up.
And when somebody dies from ricocheting bullets or the poor aim of a middle manager at McDonalds? Or maybe some old jackass gets mad about his order at the local feedbag taking too long? Maybe some idiot decides he was cut off on the road and needs to do something about it. Maybe some gal took her pills at the wrong time, and is a basket case.
Personally, considering we live in a country of absolute dimwits, I’d rather us not be armed with high-powered weapons.

Street cops are useless, I agree, and that is because our elites are libertarians, liberals, and libertines. A serious country with social credit monitoring, and zero tolerance policy, including expanded death penalties, would be fine regarding crime.
It is true that early modern countries had harsh punishments but also, paradoxically, had rampant crime, think of 18th and 19th-century London, but that was because they didn’t have the technical or professional ability to police their societies. We can.
We need more video monitoring, more genetic and psychological screening, and a gibbet or two.
The world is full of people that are stupid. They are there like it or not. The US has a population of low life cretins responsible for the vast majority of all crimes and they don’t care about gun laws or any other laws, by definition.
The decent people need to even the playing field. Every gun law violates the clear wording of the constitution. There should be absolutely no laws mentioning guns and every person that can reason and see clearly should realize that the street cops can’t possibly protect you, even if they wanted to and they don’t, and therefore your safety is entirely your own responsibility. The courts have ruled on numerous occasions that the ‘police have no duty to protect the citizenry’; look that phrase up. The regime has made it perfectly clear that you may not protect yourself via its ridiculous laws and their costumed thugs won’t protect you either.
The decent people outnumber the road rage idiots or other dimwits routinely shown on video doing outrageous things by a wide margin. The reason the incidents you highlighted exist is because the average person is forced to put up with them via the laws and the morons that enforce those laws to create victims to be victimized.
As for marksmanship, a gun is a simply tool to master to a proficiency level adequate for most short range encounters. I specifically mentioned a shotgun precisely because it’s range is limited and is the ideal weapon for the business owner that has to blow away the criminal that stands before him.
I suggest you view the trend toward guns in the following video that shows you are seriously out of touch with the general sentiment in the US.

To kick off Andy’s campaign, the old man paid to bus in dozens of Jewish coeds from Andy’s idiot-party school, Southhampton College, which is about two hours from the Big Bagel and conveniently located out by the ocean beaches on eastern Long Island. Classy people like the Finkelsteins and their Jewish social circle pronounce Long Island something like Lawn Guyland. As I recall, Jewish girls were also bused in from some schools in New Jersey, which is pronounced without the “New” and simply called Joisey by this same elite.
Acting hand in glove, the kosher TV news in New York arranged throngs of coeds screaming their support of Andy as the new face of a revitalized New York. These faked rallies could then be flogged nonstop as predictive programming and free campaign ads under the guise of reporting the news. Andy later married Lynn Forester, who later became Lady something-or-other Rothschild.
The current status of New York’s political and social elites is one of donkeys dressing in racing silks and demanding to be to treated as thoroughbreds. Carlos Danger, who’s not Andy’s twin, by the way, is another example of what the aristocracy degenerates into during the last days of empire.
It’s tempting to imagine that giving the law-abiding citizenry leave to blast away the criminals would clean up the streets straight away. And it likely would make our lives safer from the predatory classes. (Well, the overtly violent ones, not necessarily the white collar thieves.) But I agree with Ennui that the collateral damage would be unacceptable.
A laissez-faire policy toward private vengeance could work only in a society of angels. Applied to anyone, say, without a criminal record it would undo whatever good came of it. People who’ve never been on the wrong side of the law can still be irrational, angry, or mind-fucked. We’d need to be protected from them.
There’s no perfect, and maybe no very good, solution. The best I can see is to upgrade law enforcement with better recruiting, better training, better oversight, and responsible support from the court system so that when cops bag a bad guy he isn’t out on no-expense parole the next day.

None of them could complete the 50 yard dash . We have plenty of adjacent towns with populations of 300 to 1000 and they have no cops . And I’m not aware of any murders in those towns either . If anyone is wondering where I’m talking about , we were a few blocks from the Power and Light District .

Adams actually publicly invited the illegals to NYC, promising them shelter, food, bilingual education for their kids and even free tuition to a community college for job training. His eyes were lit up like dollar signs with all the cash he thought he was going to get from the feds. When the feds didn’t give him anything he started his two-step, stuttering move. But NYC is still a proud sanctuary city. They will keep coming.

Medium/small towns don’t have the tax base to support the shelters, public housing, extensive latch-key programs, etc., that draws a large, permanent underclass, but that’s changing as the large cities are buckling under the pressure.

Funny how so many who see themselves as champions of social justice hate and fear ordinary American working people. Long ago, I spent a couple of years in a small town in northern Appalachia (population 300), which was a revelation for this native Bostonian. Folks there generally had politics and religion I found contemptible, but a good many of them were the most decent people I’ve ever met. I contrast this with the generally pretentious overeducated jackoffs up here that I can’t stand socially, even though I hold ideals that are at least superficially similar to theirs. Life is nothing if not ironic. Only a sense of humor gets you through, sometimes. That and not taking yourself so god-damned seriously, or trying not to mistake the way you feel for the way you are.

IMO, Republicans are in on it. DeSantis and Abbott accomplished nothing by sending these illegal WMD invaders to Blue cities. What is going to keep them there?? I own property in a rural area that’s at least 90% white. I’ve also lived in a rural area in multiple states.
My property gets broken into at least once every couple months. There’s nothing in there to pilfer, although they have tried. It’s kind of amusing. Of course the sheriff would do nothing, so what’s the point in calling? If they did catch them, we’d hear the sad song of poverty, broken families, etc. They might get juvie assuming they are under 18.
The point is, rednecks might not be the ghetto from the Wire, but the behavior of about 20% of the rural lumpenproletariat is unacceptable. Sure, the rest of the rural population is ok, less annoying than suburban strivers, but feckless in the face of cultural change.
My issue, in their obsession with blacks and jews, many Unzites act like rural lowlifes don’t exist, or, if they do, people here make excuses for them and blame everyone else. Maybe they just aren’t exposed to them, as many posters are upper middle class.
There is a centuries old, perfectly accurate, acceptable term that is rarely used on this website, white trash. This 20% or so of undesirables were causing mischief and being an annoyance back when most blacks were still slaves, the only Jews in this country were peddlers, Mexicans and Guatemalans were sharecroppers in their home countries, and the Chinese were buying British opium. So if there is a continuum of bad behavior from the Pap Finns of the 1840’s to the neck tattoos of today, can’t blame it all on deindustrialization and wokeness, now can we?

Problem with a shotgun is barrel length. Makes it unwieldy indoors. Taurus has a revolver called The Judge that can accommodate shotgun rounds. As everyone in the know knows, long barrels are for planned hunting, short barrels are for spur of the moment self-defense. That said, do not violate the law by shortening the barrel of your weapon. It’s a very practical idea but will lead to not-so-great legal bad things.

These days, the only ‘long gun’ I’d buy is a bullpup, rifle or shotgun. They shorten the weapon considerably so that legal weapons are still reasonable in close quarters. My favorite shotgun is the IWI Tavor TS12 semi automatic that holds 15 in three cylinders plus 1 chambered.
I’ve read about the pistols that will chamber a 410 shotgun round and for close quarters, that’s plenty with a well placed shot. Anything is better than nothing. In a typical liquor store setup, I’d have a 9mm with an extra magazine.
In a riot situation, the Koreans had the right idea to guard their stores from the rooftop. Shooting toward the ground limits unintended injury. If you’re inside the business, a 12 gauge to answer a rock through the window would probably be enough to limit further mischief.
After getting shot and stabbed on three occasions while going to high school in New York, I gave up on thinking about legal vs illegal when living or dying became the more important consideration, so I carried pistols my entire adult life before leaving the US and it never even occurred to me to get a permit. Brandishing / ‘Defensive Display’ was enough to stop situations a few times before they escalated.

It may well be that the story has been wiped clean from the internet, but I still would like some sort of verification of this story from Mr. Derbyshire before I go spouting off at Thanksgiving. Clarksville, Texas or Clarksville, Tennessee? Names? There was indeed a double lynching of two white men in Texas in 1922, but nothing like this in 1914.
