Here’s an argument for the IDF’s response to Hamas’ incursion on October 7th which is actually sympathetic to the Israeli point of view, and which for some reason even the Jews aren’t using: it wasn’t just the hostages that were at stake but the possibility of Hamas insurgents making their way even deeper into Israeli territory and causing even greater chaos. The swift and overwhelming military response was partly to prevent that eventuality. What if Israel had employed a more cautious approach designed to spare the hostages? It might have allowed Hamas to gain a foothold which ultimately would have caused far greater bloodshed.

The argument that Hamas lacked the firepower or even the weapons to cause such destruction is compelling.
