In his famous 1992 “Culture War” speech at the Republican National Convention, Pat Buchanan mocked the Democrat Convention that year: “My friends, like many of you last month, I watched that giant masquerade ball up at Madison Square Garden, where 20,000 liberals and radicals came dressed up as moderates and centrists in the greatest single exhibition of cross-dressing in American political history.”
Thirty-two years later, “cross-dressing” takes on a disturbing new meaning. Still, the costumes worked. Bill Clinton won, ended the “Reagan Revolution,” and stopped the permanent shift to the Right many movement conservatives predicted. Especially because of the failure to control mass immigration, the 49-state Republican majority Ronald Reagan won in his second term was finished by the end of the century, and Barack Obama won on a promise to transform America. The nation of Reagan and Nixon is gone forever.
This year’s Democrat convention may be a repeat. Just a few weeks after confident Republican delegates renominated Donald Trump to face an ailing Joe Biden, exultant Democrats crowned Kamala Harris, whose sex and race are central to her career and candidacy. One of the most unpopular vice presidents in modern history, she is now leading most polls, thanks to determined media protection and a skillful basement campaign, in which she does not take questions or face hostile audiences. Instead, reporters marvel at her campaign’s “joy,” and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz serves as the pathetic white sidekick straight out of a TV commercial. This is not just the usual campaign pablum of sticking to cliches and avoiding specifics; Vice President Harris refuses to list policies at all. No center-right candidate could wage such an empty campaign and count on the media for adoring coverage and protection from scrutiny.
Delegates to the convention worked hard to look moderate. Delegates flew American flags, chanted “U-S-A” and held USA signs. Tim Walz played up his (sometimes exaggerated) army record and the DNC brought out the football team he coached (well, assistant coached). Kamala Harris even claimed to want border security. There was just enough to tempt guilty conservatives into voting Democrat. Adam Kinzinger helped as the perennial former Republican “true conservative” who suddenly decides to endorse the Left (and take a job with the media), just as former Republican chairman Michael Steele did.
Crossdressing can’t hide everything, especially the platform. It begins with a “land acknowledgment” that the country was built on “Indigenous homelands.” It’s hard to square this with patriotism because it is essentially admits that America has no right to exist.

The platform says a lot about race, and “Blacks” get reverential upper case. The platform says it will reduce the “racial wealth gap,” which is caused by bias in home appraisals. It promises to give more money to black colleges, and to go easy on drug criminals because prosecution hurts “Black and brown people.” It brags about the number of black judges Joe Biden appointed and rails against violence against transgenders, especially “Black and brown transgender women.” When will Hispanics demand a capital B?
There is an entire section on “racial equity.” This will mean more money for SNAP and EBT, an admission that this is “racial equity,” not just an attack on poverty. “Black and Latino communities” will get “community” loans, whatever those are. “Black and other ‘socially disadvantaged’ farmers” will be forgiven their debts; “socially disadvantaged” means special government handouts.
“To determine how best to right historical wrongs, Democrats support Congress executing a study of reparations and the continuing impacts of slavery,” says the platform. Presumably, Kamala Harris, whose ancestors were not in this country during slavery and may be descended from slave owners, would get a check. JD Vance, brought up in poverty, would write one.
The platform swallows every line about Donald Trump:
Again and again, Trump has shown us who he is on the issue of hate. He rubs shoulders with and encourages white supremacists, even launching his 2024 campaign with a meeting with white supremacist, antisemite, and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes. He called white supremacist and openly antisemitic Charlottesville protesters “very fine people.” He reportedly thinks Hitler “did some good things” and echoes his hateful rhetoric about immigrants, including that they’re “poisoning the blood of our country.” He will reinstate his disgraceful Muslim ban if he’s elected, continuing his long history of Islamophobia. And he fueled anti-Asian hate as the AANHPI community faced a spike in hate crimes surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is a remarkable testament to media power. Democrats accept every distortion, years after it has been debunked.

It’s futile for Donald Trump to worry about blacks getting good jobs. Michelle Obama’s entire life has been a gift of misplaced charity, and it seems only to have intensified the rage of the privileged.
Oprah Winfrey, who once thought about running for vice president with Donald Trump, also sounded angry. “I’ve seen racism and sexism and income inequality and division. I’ve not only seen it. At times, I have been on the receiving end of it.” This from from a billionaire who used to attend Jeremiah Wright’s church.
The most outrageous appearance was from Al Sharpton, who appeared with the “Central Park Five.” Councilman Yusef Salaam, one of the five, said Donald Trump thinks hate is the animating force in America.

Meanwhile, several national referenda would be circulated across the land to determine how to reapportion the assets of several of these media giants. To State Government? Academia? Entertainment? Education? Arts? Environment and the Art of Living? Religious groups? Give each of the 8-10 winners 10-15% of the public air waves… Ah, a bright new day will have arrived.

I agree with you, but I have a very hard time believing the truck drivers, railway workers and technical professionals you describe will ever consiously act to put a stop to any of this. To my eyes, the socio-political gangrene has become so widespread – as has the apathy about all of it – that the situation has gone far beyond remedy, already.
