I have been trying to work out what that added to most people’s knowledge or tended to help humans plan and move toward a better future than pure laissez faire would achieve. It is hardly news that most people in all ages have been happy to accept a trade off of ease and fun against putting time and energy into contending for, holding and using power which can affect everyone. Apparently the author hopes that will change and thinks it might, if not highly probably.

I presume that the author accepts that the accelerating rate of innovation and invention which became obvious in the 19th century will continue to afford mankind huge improvements on what those born even 100 years ago could look forward to. So he worries about the threat of the negatives. These he identifies as

1. Excess population and population growth with which few would disagree but on which he gives no hint of solutions. With this he raises fears of global famine.
2. Using fossil fuels because, presumably, he regards them as the major cause of dangerous global warming
3. “Corporate greed” which, unless he can envisage some miraculous transformation of human nature must mean that the large institutions of the economy, which, even if state owned, can’t all be run at a loss, must be better regulated, and shamed and sued into ceasing to inflict gross negative externalities on us
4. The need for “Restoring[sic]” democracy in lieu of the oligarchy he sees as having developed …. in unnamed formerly democratic countries
5. The need to decrease inequality (the measure of which is not mentioned) in all countries and between them to some unspecified extent.
6. The need to destroy nationalism and it’s basis in ingrained tribal feeling and thinking and to replace this with generous feelings for all humanity and a willingness to act accordingly – but with no discussion of good or acceptable discrimination in judgment, sentiment or action – or any realistic idea of how humanity may be changed for the better.

It is hard to imagine opponents frothing at the mouth and shouting “bullshit” to all of those sentimental objectives though some will quibble with the climate change assumptions that seem to be implicit. But what would a practical person’s approach be? The answer to that is impossible to discern in the article.

Are there untrue beliefs about matters of fact which are making effective dealing with the world’s problems significantly more difficult and which could be countered successfully? Maybe world leaders could agree on a program to reduce these damaging errors of belief and understanding?

Such a goal is the essence of human freedom and it is going to put massive pressures on government and the private interest that government has been supporting in deference to those it is suppose to beneficially govern. Establishing “a human right oriented global ethic” requires that distribution of deceptive content be stopped. Access to media must be free, open to all on equivalent unimpeded basis. Yet to some that freedom seems, if not illusory, useless. Orwell’s and Bardèche’s books have had quite different careers in the Occident. But one cannot help but wonder if its general acclaim today is not also an index to its irrelevance. We have escaped the dreadful future envisioned by Orwell in 1984. We have not escaped the dreadful future envisioned by Bardèche in 1948. Bardèche says that his “only ambition, in writing this book, was to be able to read it again without shame in fifteen years.” My ambition, in translating it, was much more grandiose: I hope to hear it read some day without shame on TV by a politician. Bardèche wrote this book for the sake of the German “reprobates,” whom “the radios of all the people of the world, and the presses of all the people of the world, and millions of voices from all the horizons of the world” characterize as “monsters.” I have translated it also for the sake of “reprobates,” those nationalists throughout the Occident whom all our radios and presses and millions of voices likewise characterize as little better than “monsters.”

The media has become a “fifth column” of the government and is not to be trusted. The CIA has had its hooks in the media since the 1950s. In fact, Hollywood script writers were paid to insert anti-drug messages in their scripts during the “drug hysteria” period of the 1980s through 2000s. Today, we have “crisis actors” embedded in our government and media, the same “crisis actors” who keep showing up, being used in every (fake) “crisis”. Surely most readers here would recommend the newly created alternative media channel to friends and families. It would grow, it would snowball, and it would also meet resistance. Maybe you could even pull your mama or grandpa away from CNN and Fox to look at the new channel online? Online, because it won’t be on TV, and it won’t be taken too seriously on public access TV.

But it is this kind of alternative universe, not just media, that needs to be created so that we can exist in it and cooperate with each other. You can’t beat the global establishment in their world. You just have to create a new world. And soon! One day it might not even be possible.

Not really. High IQ people can be mislead and deceived. The MSM is pretty sophisticated in creating narratives that has no basis in reality. I agree with how some of the others that the Western (USA, Canada, Australia and the EU) media is rife with shoddy “journalism” and biased reporting. But I have wonder about the Russian media and how it measures up in comparison.

After reading one of Anatoly Karlin’s articles on Russia Insider, there were a few comments remarking on how the Russian media is just as biased as (if not more so than) the Western media. This made me disappointed for a while; until then, I had the impression that Russian media was more objective/less biased than Western media granted that:

1. Russia is being unfairly attacked by the Western MSM and,
2. unlike the USA (and its lapdogs) with its internal problems (e.g. LGBTism) and external meddling in other countries’ affairs, Russia just simply minds its own business.

Eventually I found a page of Mr. Karlin’s site with a section discussing the differences between American and Russian media. While it’s helpful to a degree, I doubt it says enough.

The reason I ask is that, while I applaud the existence of alternate media, however, I don’t want to give up on radio, TV or newspapers completely. Not to mention there are some people who don’t have internet connectivity. (correct me if I’m wrong, but Mr. Karlin also said on his site that internet connectivity in Russia is not as developed as that of the US)

Now they have a comment function that is heavily moderated, with “Times Picks” comments highlighted in a separate tab.

I can’t remember the name of it, but there was a beta application back in the 1990s that would provide an overlay for any other webpage where users could post comments on a third party server that was out of reach of the site host itself. You could annotate the overlay of any site- from a news story to a politician’s web page. I thought it was a terrific idea, with marketable potential, but something seems to have killed it off.
