They also sent a message that Israel knows where Tehran’s strategic vulnerabilities are, and it can destroy them any time it wants”.
Russell Mead adduces from this reading his key point: “Military forces that have access to American military technology and intelligence-gathering capabilities can wipe the floor with militaries that rely on Moscow … American technology is the gold standard in the world of defence – even more so for a country such as Israel that has significant intelligence and technological capabilities”.
The western ‘war of imagined, created reality’ thus reaches out beyond Ukraine – to arrive in Iran.

A more sober and experienced observer however, notes after four days examination, that, succinctly put:
“The IAF strikes seem to have produced minimal results; it appears however that covert operatives within Iran achieved several [inconsequential] drone hits. The Israelis launched a lot of missiles [some 56] – all from maximum stand-off distance. Iran put up a LOT of air defence missiles. There are no firm reports, nor video evidence (so far) of big ballistic missile strikes on any significant Iranian targets. The Iranians say they intercepted most of the attacking missiles, but admit some got through”.
As usual, the ‘imaginary war narrative’ being broadcast is completely detached from that which can be observed from ground imagery. Russell Meade effectively was demanding the pretence that ‘we not notice’ that Israel’s attack failed – that it did not cripple air defences, nor did it devastate any significant target.

Too often, we are led to believe it is a structured, ordered system defined by clear rules and patterns. This is the meme at the crux of the Rules Order narrative. Professor Dingxin Zhao notes how, in contrast to other metaphysical structures, it allows believers to create a more committed zeitgeist, compelling individuals within that community to act in alignment to the anticipated teleological outcome.
It is not hard to see this teleological premise as the underpinning to today’s obsession with creating imaginary ‘victory narratives’. Professor Dingxin Zhao warns that those making linear predictions about the tide of human events according to mechanistic material ‘science’, can easily be convinced that they alone possess the correct beliefs and are aligned with the right path of analysis. And that ‘others’ simply are on the “wrong side” (such as in states that have ‘mistakenly’ come to rely on Russian military technology, rather than on America’s ‘gold standard’).
Within this dominant, hubristic paradigm of social science, our world is treated as one that can be understood, controlled and bent to our whims. It can’t.
In his bestselling book Chaos: Making a New Science (1987), James Gleick “observes that 20th-century science will be remembered for three things: relativity, quantum mechanics (QM), and chaos. One such event seemingly happened last Saturday, when it appears that the Israeli strike on Iran suffered an unexpected ‘major hitch’ rather early in the SEAD operation (Suppressing Enemy Air Defences) to suppress and destroy Iran’s air defences. Apparently the first wave of attack was intended as the first step – once Iranian airspace had been secured – to pave the way for the subsequent F-35 strike package armed with conventional bombs.
The unexpected event – ‘Israeli media reported that an “unknown air defence system” was used to shoot down targets over Tehran province’. Reportedly, the Israeli operation was scrubbed soon after, and the victory narrative – later to be taken up by the WSJ (among many others) – was loudly proclaimed.
Of course, a victory narrative was too valuable to be foregone. Yet nonetheless, unexplained events matter.
If Israeli (or U.S.) aircraft cannot penetrate secured Iranian airspace – in whole or in part (and no Israel aircraft entered Iranian airspace on Saturday) – the entire paradigm for a U.S. or an Israeli kinetic military attack collapses: Iran has an overwhelming deeply-buried conventional missile arsenal by which to respond.

Iran says it intends to hit Israel a painful blow for last Saturday’s strike. And Israel says that it will try again to strike Iran.

What seems to us impossible – that there is no way it will happen – suddenly happens … And everyone gets used to it, [and used] to the lack of strategy. Lack of strategy turns from a bug into a feature … Then no big deal, We’ll try something else””.

I have no idea how ‘experienced’ the person is, but I have a pretty good idea why Crooke prefers him (a guy sitting behind his computer, apparently in Utah) to the WSJ — for the record, there’s a lot of dumb propaganda on both sides, and I don’t really know whose assessment is closer to the facts — but I find it interesting (albeit not surprising) that Crooke choose to omit this text from the ‘experienced observer’:
It seems somewhat incongruous to say ‘hitting something meaningful’ (I think there can be no doubt the IDF did that) shows ‘how limited Israeli long-range strike capability really is’, since such precise targeting is actually quite a strategic and technical feat — whether Iranian AD really is ‘formidable’ is an open question.

It’s published in the opinion section, so there are no facts: it offers no evidence at all for the claims of a ‘devastating series of air raids’ by Israel — so I don’t understand why Crooke would bother with it, other than to use it as an example of pro-Israel bias in the American political and media establishments.
I find it hard to believe that the Iranians reverse-engineered the radar systems from photographs taken on a tour of the factory. Unless the schematics and manuals were also “photographed”, which seems most likely. There’s more than one way to skin a sanction, if two intelligent and willing parties put their heads together. Hajizadeh is probably spinning the “photographs” subterfuge to create a false distance between Russia and Iran, mainly for consumption by Western governments who need their biases confirmed.
Even if Crooke is correct and Netanyahu’s victory narratives are nothing but Jew media lies, what the hell is the difference? The end result will be the same: there will be a war against Iran. Why? Now to the use in the field. Its okay to talk about the accuracy of the M16. But you need to understand that in the bush what counts is fire volume and therefore fire suppression and then fire superiority ! Targets are generally unseen or fleeting and visibility at the best of times may be limited to 20 yards. You can be Sergeant York with the M16 but chances are your success rate will be limited. In the Nam US soldiers would unload hundreds of rounds into the bush with spec fire. In return the VC and NVA would unload hundreds of rounds from their AK and LMGs. Accuracy means shit ! In the urban arena or night operations, accuracy is redundant. In an urban area targets are also fleeting and most times unseen. The more rubble the more sneaky places to hide. Dust, dirt, flying debris and smoke, thirst, exhaustion, lack of sleep, extremely close quarters, rounds coming in and the dimension of height ! Nobody is aiming. The goal is to hose down !
Now to the accuracy ! Because the 7.62 round is slow and therefore slow to leave the barrel, that, plus the heavy recoil means the slightest instability on the part of the shooter will impact where the round ends up. However, what does accuracy mean if an intended head shot ends up in the shoulder or if the action is to hose down an area. Nevertheless, front support, stock support against the shoulder and the elimination of motion by the shooter, focus on the front sight and trigger discipline ie basic and advanced marksmanship eliminates most of the “inaccuracy” when a shot needs to be correctly placed. Communist trainers place great emphasis on these points when putting infantry through advanced training. There are endless drills for putting down accurate fire from the shoulder, from the hip and prone while on the move. As one Cuban NCO remarked, if your AK cannot score at 50 yards you must be an imbecile !
And for reliability note that the M16 is unreliable. The humidity in the bush, low quality gunpowder, poor maintenance, inferior cartridge and inferior magazine construction resulted in jamming at the most unpleasant time. In one ambush in the Nam, a three man VC team took out the jeep driver and shot up the engine. The passenger jumped out and fought on but was killed. He still had some of his own ammunition and several mags from the dead driver but his M16 jammed. The VC moved in and shot him up, the last bullet through the face at close range. They stripped them both of everything except the M16 and its ammunition. He might have prevailed but a jammed M16 was his doom ! The cartridge was so wedged in the breech that the weapon was sent to the armorer. There was a fear that the “traditional” means of clearing the rifle ie stuffing a rod down the barrel might cause the cartridge to explode.
Finally 100M of the AK47s were produced versus about 8M of the M16. Even production of the Chinese 56 assault rifle exceeded production of the M16. Add in all the other clones of the AK and the output dwarfs M16 output. I could go on for another 500o words.
