I’m open to but skeptical of feminine ‘dumbness’ on three grounds.

First, is the difference in IQ all that great? Below a certain point, I tend to see minor differences as as likely to be driven by culture as inherent intelligence. In other words, what would a two-point difference tell us, if anything? That men are more intelligent? That men are better able to focus on a single task? That men are more competitive?

Second, IQ is an excellent surrogate for intelligence in general but not necessarily exactly the same thing. If we have a slightly higher score for men, does this indicate slightly greater intelligence or merely that IQ tests are testing maleness to some slight degree — like, say, a tendency to shut out all other stimuli and focus on the task at hand? This last is not necessarily an asset in all circumstances; I was talking just yesterday to another man about how we both cannot handle ‘multi-tasking.’ Ask me to do it, and I wind up just biting A’s head off and focusing on B…it’s not pretty. I certainly wouldn’t see it as evidence of my superiority.

Nothing in the bible says the “one true Church” is the Roman Catholic Church. The church founded by Christ began in Jerusalem, not Rome. Its head was James, not Peter.

They can fellowship with other Christians in any way they please. They don’t have to be Catholic or anything else.

The Catholic Church formed the Bible in the 4th century at three dogmatic councils, similar to the one described in Acts, where the leaders of the Church decided that Gentile converts need not burden themselves with the prescriptions of the Old Law. At the time at which the books of the Bible had been assembled into what we today call the Bible, many other spurious “Gospels” had been floating around that may have in many ways encapsulated the true Christian faith but were eventually excluded from Canon, and since none of the books told us which books had to be included in the Bible, only the one, universal church of the Christians guided by the Holy Spirit possessed the authority to deem books Canon or not. If you are reading from the KJV, then your version of the “Bible” is missing 7 books, which Protestants and thus heretics removed 1000 years later. It was at these councils and others like it, where the rules of the Faith were codified, and these dogmas must be believed as once declared, for they come from Christ Himself. To deny even one of these or to depart from the Faith in even one article of faith is to deny the faith altogether. Unless you convert and become one with this church and thus subjugate yourself to the authority of the Holy Magisterium then you will without a doubt perish for all eternity.

1. The Roman Catholic Church you refer to didn’t even exist until after the Great Schism of 1054 and the division of the existing church into Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox. I did this in response to someone who suggested I could only be saved if I was part of the Roman Catholic Church. I consider such a statement presumptuous — one that calls for an equally presumptuous reply.

What you say about some — not all — Protestant churches is true. Even the better ones are not perfect. Like the Roman Catholic Church, not one of them is without fault.

My own theological view — more Protestant than Roman Catholic — is as follows:

Faith plus baptism is fully sufficient for salvation — without anything else added.

Denying that this is so contradicts Christ’s work on the cross, where he bore punishment for the sins of mankind.

Adding good works to what is required for salvation is saying what Christ did wasn’t good enough.

How do good works come into the picture?

Once you are born again and invested by the Holy Spirit, you will automatically follow Christ’s commandments, do good works, and refrain from sin to the best of your ability. To argue otherwise would be to suggest that the Holy Spirit is not up to the task of doing what it is supposed to do.

So, if somebody is “born again” but continues to sin, he didn’t really commit himself and he wasn’t born again.

I find this understanding of salvation to be superior to the Roman Catholic understanding, which inserts the church into the process of salvation. The church should facilitate — not intervene in — that process.

As for the man who is “born again” at the last minute after a life of sin, I doubt this would be a true rebirth. The man most likely would be cynically trying to save himself rather than sincerely committing himself to Christ.

Will Roman Catholics be saved? I think they are their own worst enemy when it comes to salvation because their practices suggest inadequate belief in the salvific power of faith and — therefore — in the salvific power of Christ.

In the final analysis, God will make the decision.

As for the alleged primacy of Peter, I would like to know how you reconcile Peter supposedly being the “rock” on which the church is built (Natthew 16:17) with Matthew 16:23 (just six verses later), which says, “But he [Jesus] turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: Thou art an affront unto me, for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of man.” Peter then goes on to betray Christ three times — some rock!

When Christ says, “On this rock I will build my church”, he is likely not referring to Peter, but to Peter’s statement, “Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.” The rock upon which the church is built is the recognition that Jesus is the Messiah. That is a much more solid rock than Peter, who is an imperfect and fallible human being. “Rock” in the context of Christianity refers to God, to Jesus (who is God manifested in human flesh) and to unwavering faith. It symbolizes the eternal, that which is not contingent or changeable. Saying it exclusively refers to Peter is wrong.

Even though all 12 disciples are gathered together for this meeting, Jesus says these things only to St. Peter. No other apostle is given the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. In Matthew 18:18, we read that all the Apostles are given the power to bind and to loose; but Peter alone is promised the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven in Matthew 16:19. This shows us that the power which is given to all the Apostles to bind and to loose in Matthew 18:18, must be exercised under the keys which are given alone to Peter. Peter has a unique position of authority in the Church.

“As for the alleged primacy of Peter, I would like to know how you reconcile Peter supposedly being the “rock” on which the church is built (Natthew 16:17) with Matthew 16:23 (just six verses later), which says, “But he [Jesus] turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: Thou art an affront unto me, for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of man.” Peter then goes on to betray Christ three times — some rock!”

In John 21, Jesus entrusts all of His sheep to St. Peter, and it was at that this moment, after the Resurrection of Jesus, that Jesus actually gave to St. Peter the keys and the authority over His church which He had promised him in Matthew 16. When Peter denied Jesus Christ, it was before the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Jesus had not yet given St. Peter the authority as pope. The words in Mt. 16:18-20 promise the keys of the Kingdom to St. Peter. They promise that Jesus would build His Church upon Him and make him the prime minister of His Church, but that office was not conferred upon Peter until after the Resurrection, by these words in John 21:15-17. Therefore, St. Peter’s denial of Christ poses no problem at all for Catholic teaching on the papacy.

Where does he say that?

The Greek word used in Matthew 10:2 (protos) means first or chief or principal. Since no other numbers are given in the list—and Peter was not the first one who followed Jesus (Andrew was)—this statement is clearly not meant to assign a number to Simon Peter. It is to indicate that he is the chief or leader or principal of the twelve. Matthew is literally saying: The Chief, Peter.

It’s also interesting to note that protos is used to mean “chief” in Matthew 20:27.

Matthew 20:27- “And whosoever will be chief [protos] among you, let him be your servant.”

The very same Gospel (Matthew) already told us that Peter is the chief among them (Matthew 10:2). The statement in Mathew 20:27, about who will be the chief among them, is therefore not some general instruction; but it is one that has a very specific and concrete application. The chief, Peter, must also act like a servant, discharging his position of leadership with humility. This verse is one reason why a pope (who is chief in the Church of Jesus) is called “servant of the servants of God” (servus servorum dei).

The Roman Catholic Church claims to exclusively possess the keys to the kingdom and the “deposit of faith”, but there is no reason to believe this is true. Because, as I already said, the Roman Catholic Church did not exist until after the Great Schism. It was part of a larger church. That is the church that would have received the keys and the deposit of faith. That church is now gone, divided at first into two churches (Roman Catholic and eastern Orthodox) and then into three or more churches (Roman Catholic, eastern Orthodox and the various Protestant sects). All of them can equally claim authority and apostolic succession because all of them trace back to the original church, which began in Jerusalem.

I think I already refuted this point, but I will add that “Orthodox” “Christians” deny the papacy, despite the fact that there had already been well over 100 popes up until the point that they fell away from the Faith.

Acts 15:19 makes it clear that James was the head of the first church in Jerusalem.

Jesus irrefutably made Peter not James the first Pope.

I find this highly unlikely given that those books were all part of the Old Testament and Christ hadn’t even appeared yet.

Martin Luther and his fellow Protestants removed seven complete books from the Bible. They removed the books of Tobias (Tobit), Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus (Sirach), Baruch, First and Second Machabees, as well as parts of Esther and Daniel. As a result, Protestant bibles (to this day) have 66 books, while Catholic bibles have 73. Martin Luther and the Protestants made the radical decision to remove these seven books from the Bible, even though they had been almost universally acknowledged as part of the Bible for over a millennium.

Additionally, the seven books which the Protestants removed are found in the Septuagint. The Septuagint is a Greek translation of the Old Testament which was completed a few centuries before the birth of Jesus Christ. Some might ask: what’s so important about the Septuagint? Well, the New Testament quotes from the Old Testament about 350 times—and about 300 of those quotes are from the Septuagint version. That means that the authors of the New Testament accepted the Septuagint version of the Old Testament, and thus the seven books which the Protestants rejected.

The Orthodox Church could equally claim that it “emerged” out of the Great Schism. In fact, the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches did not exist until after the Great Schism. But Roman Catholics deny this, saying that only they hold “the keys to the kingdom”. This petty, self-serving attitude is repulsive to any fair-minded person.

Peter is gone. Whatever authority (I would say none) that Jesus gave him died with him.

An even better interpretation is that Jesus rejected the idea of any of his disciples being “first”. We are equals as Christians — brothers and sisters in Christ. Only Christ has authority over his kingdom.

The Christian New Testament, written in Greek, does not come from the Roman Catholic Church, but from the church founded by Jesus Christ that preceded the Roman Catholic Church.

The church founded by Jesus underwent schism in 1054. Out of that schism, two new churches were formed — the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern (including Greek) Orthodox Church.

The Eastern Orthodox church possessed the New Testament. It also possessed the Old Testament.

There was no need for the KJV to depend on a Roman Catholic text. All that was needed were scholars who could translate correctly.

The Roman Catholic Church does not have exclusive possession of the bible, and never has had exclusive possession of the bible.

The promises to the seed of Abraham are to us, we are the inheritors of the promise through Christ, Christ is the seed of Abraham:

Being born of Jewish seed doesn’t make you an inheritor to any of the promises, only through Christ:

They will have no part in God’s New Jerusalem, unless they turn to Christ and get saved.
