In the Timaeus, Plato teaches that the “nature of the universe…from this source we have derived philosophy”. (§47 a-b) The Natural Law is the basis and foundation of Doric philosophy. Plato writes, “…that we, learning them and partaking of the natural truth of reason [ed. note: the natural law], might imitate the absolutely unerring courses of God and regulate our own vagaries.” (ibid c) The “unerring courses of God” are in nature!

Philosophy COMES FROM NATURE. It is about looking at the Cosmos (ordered beauty), finding the metaphysical Laws of Nature–and APPLYING them to you and your state. That is what the Doric Greeks in Crete and Sparta did! The Laws of Nature is the Logos!

Putting aside all of that bullshit I just wrote, there is another way to look at the Gaza issue, which is that no human being with a soul can tolerate what these Jews are doing to these people. There is no such thing as “progress” in philosophy. There is progress in Knowledge. Science, “to know that which is”, is always unfolding and is subset of Philosophy. Philosophy is a big tent with many sub sections. But the main heading is The Logos, the Natural Law, which is eternal and unchanging.

Socrates said this in the Gorgias:

All of them profess Thales as the start of philosophy–but if you read Aristotle carefully he says “the first of this kind of philosopher” meaning that he wasn’t the “first” philosopher but of a certain kind. Plato is NOT rewriting philosophy, he is mixing his Ionian insights with the Doric. One must sift what is Doric foundation of philosophy from his Ionianisms. In some cases, Plato is extrapolating Doric positions. His Laws is a copy of the Spartan Republic and its laws. The German classicist Werner Jaeger calls Plato an imitator, a copier.
