Peck Slip is a good healthy walk from where I live. The neighborhood is primarily Hispanic and Chinese. No real gentrification down that way. The Hispanics may get upset if their kids tell them what may be happening -because the school is never going to be honest with parents –parents are the enemy! The Chinese,well, will be Chinese and not cause a fuss – especially immigrant Chinese.

New York City always finds a way to push the envelope to the next even more extreme level. You’d think the safety of our most vulnerable citizens would always take precedence over the noisiest special interest group, but no. My impression of Maine is that is one of the few decent (i.e. not yet destroyed by ruinous public policies) places left to live in the US. These issues tend to bring on purity spirals. The swept up “harm reduction” zealot can’t balance or even acknowledge the effects of the facility on the schoolchildren — unconditional support for drug addicts is a public test of virtue. Once someone has enjoyed the social rewards for supporting the cause, the fear of ostracism keeps him from breaking ranks.

Try attending a hearing on something like this. You’ll wonder whether you’re back in seventh grade.

Notice how quickly the jewish child molestation, rape, blood sacrifice tunnels under NYC streets were filled in.
Despite evidence showing toddler high chairs, blood soaked mattresses and other child size items in the tunnels, the NYC authorities chose to look the other way and destroy the evidence itself by filling in the tunnels.

In carefully controlled situations it can work. Uncontrolled distribution of “kits” to facilitate drug use only perpetuates a difficult situation and is unworkable.
The “key” is to identify users and carefully control and monitor their drug use without the threat of arrest, incarceration or other punishment.
A good example of a successful “harm reduction” model is that which was used in Liverpool England.
Addicts who held jobs but were unwilling to give up their addiction were given their “fixes” from pharmacies, not from the black market. Products tailored to individual use precluded and prevented addicts from selling the product to others.
Crime went down almost immediately as addicts no longer had to procure overpriced and often adulterated product from street dealers. This also put street dealers out of business as well.
Decriminalization on its own never works. A multi-pronged approach can work. There are no easy answers, but “harm reduction”, when properly applied can help.
A major problem is that the “drug warriors” do not want to see their “cash cow” eliminated, so that they purposely set up “harm reduction” programs to fail.

All one has to do is look at any American city that is run by blacks. Even though the commercial business areas may show some semblance of civilization, the neighborhoods are where the real dysfunctionality of blacks is evident.
Trash strewn all over despite trash cans being available, the slow, dull-witted black “teens” hanging around on street corners and around local business establishments (run by non-blacks), and incentive being lacking to clean up one’s own environment. Let’s not forget “drive-by shootings” due to the misperceived “disrespect” that blacks always seem to find, even in their fellow blacks.
Here is my story:
There are many corporate efforts to “reach out” to the community and provide “help” for those who are elderly, “disadvantaged” and “poor”. Although such programs are well-meaning, they don’t help the people who truly need it.
One such effort in Detroit was a program called “Paint the Town”. This effort involved local businesses that would “volunteer” their employees to provide help to the elderly and those who were deemed to be “disadvantaged”.
My company “volunteered” a number of us employees to contribute to this effort. Initially, I looked forward into helping out those who were “disadvantaged”, making things easier for them in their community. The gamut of services provided varied from picking up trash and landscaping to painting houses and doing minor repairs. At least, this was my initial perception. Was I ever wrong…
My “crew” was assigned to paint a house. There was a family consisting of a man and woman (not elderly) and three (grown) men (children), approximately 14 to 18 years of age.
These “children” watched us work, scraping and painting the house while smoking “blunts” (marijuana) and drinking their “fortys” (alcohol), while laughing at us white “fools”. The “man of the house” was OK with the color while the woman of the house constantly complained about the color.
The question that I never vocalized, but was in the back of my mind was “why don’t these people clean up and paint their own house”?
I, for one would be ashamed if “outsiders” came into my neighborhood to do things that I should be doing for myself.
After my stint on “Paint the Town”, I told my employer that I would NEVER participate in such a project ever again.

I wouldn’t dismiss “harm reduction” completely…

But I’ve no use for the sanctimonious grifters and their adolescent-level choristers.
