“Begging the question” is a phrase we encounter often these days, but it is seldom used correctly. Most use it to mean, “this calls for further questioning” but it actually means “to assume the truth of the premises and taking the conclusion as thereby proven”.

All the way though Dubya, who was the last in a long line of Republican “conservatives” on the “right”, who paid lip service to the “Greatest Generation” idiotic tropes of ‘saving the world from Hitler’, blah, blah..

That is what was known as ‘the right’ for two or three generations. Those who claimed to love Jesus, but then would bomb the shit out of anyone who didn’t bow to ZOG. That anti-right, as represented by Ike though Dubya, has seen its last icon of slavish fealty to ZOG, finally repudiated with the end of Liz Cheney’s ambitions. She was the last of the high-profile, ‘old guard’ “conservatives” who put Israel first, last and everywhere in between, when it came to policy.

Trump is the first Republican to break from that moldering mold. Perhaps more than anyone else, it was John McCain that represented all the arrogance, belligerence and murderous hubris of the ‘Old Order’ that was handed down from Ike to Dubya. And the chasm between Trump and McCain could not have been more stark or gaping.

So with Trump, there is a quite different type of ‘conservatism’ going on. It’s no longer America as the ‘savoir of the world’. The ‘Exceptional’ people, ‘who stand taller, and see farther’, blah, hurl, blah..

Now it was just ‘let’s finally put America’s interest first, rather than the whole world first. Let’s repair America’s roads and bridges, and build great American airports, and utilize America’s fossil fuels, and so forth..

And that resonated with a lot of people. Myself included. Even as it caused apoplectic aneurysms of rage all across the planet. But then, as to your question, the Trump haters on the right, there again, which right do you mean?

There are of course the neocons, who pretended to be conservatives in order to subvert the conservative, Republican agendas, and turn them into Eternal Wars for Israel and open borders and all the rest, as you well know.

So that leaves the few actual conservatives who are shut out of the political system. For a metaphore of what’s happened to conservatism in the U.S., just look at the website started in part by our host here, The American Conservative. A nascent voice for men like the Pat Buchanan of old, to speak the truths that you didn’t find in the NYTs or WSJ. And look what has happened to it. Now a festering rag of contempt for being one thing above all others, a sell out.
