Aviation, government and investment professionals thronged to its display, demonstrating the keen interest from trade delegates in learning more about a company with limited public engagement outside its home market to date.
The C919, a rival to the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320neo family single-aisle jets, flew for the first time outside Chinese territory. Show attendees said they saw it as a opportunistic coming out for COMAC, which took centre stage with a 50-plane order from China’s Tibet Airlines on Tuesday.
COMAC was able to seize a moment when the two dominant Western planemakers are dealing with supply chain issues that have frustrated airline customers and Boeing is wrestling with a series of crises, including a mid-air panel blow-out in January.
In ten years, no one with any sense will be willing to get on a Boeing jet. Companies all over the world will be advertising that they’ve replaced their fleets with Chinese jets.
It is a staggering, shocking reality that the people who push this diversity stuff actually believe in it, and actually think that affirmative action blacks and women can build and maintain jets. But this is part of the insanity.

Not so much the Boeing now as they seem to have lost their way.
We have a lot of fate with Boeing.
The chief engineer of Boeing’s predecessor, Pacific Aircraft Company, was Wang Zhu, the founder of China’s aviation industry.
And, coincidentally, we are now the ones ringing the death knell for Boeing.
That’s what multiculturalism and Boeing deserve.
It would have to be an emergency for me to ever get on an airplane again.

Anyone who has taken an airplane, high speed long distance train, intercity subway rail, or even local bus service in China immediately understands the difference between that and what is going down in the US.
The big thing from a passenger’s perspective is the lack of out of control negroes causing trouble, and grossly overweight pigs hogging two seats because they can’t fit into a single.

International rankings of competency measures are quite consistent for the US. . The U.S. comes out around 25th. This seems to be the outcome no matter where you look. For example, skill and competency of medical staff, PISA scores, and corruption. Here in California, in the construction trades, there’s a saying that Hispanics do okay “as long as they are watched.” But I don’t see how Boeing can apply this to airplane mechanics. There aren’t enough white males to do the watching, snd besides, women and blacks would not put up with the watching, and whites would be too intimidated to do the watching. My pool-equipment guy is terrific; a middle-aged guy whose first career was being a mechanic on a ship in the Navy. Smart, meticulous, conscientious. But this is hard to find. My landscaper is not a gardener, rather, he has a two-year degree in horticulture, and has technical knowledge of soil-management, pesticides, and so on. Again, hard to find.

Regarding Japan’s experience in aviation, Japan was actually banned by the US from developing an independent aviation industry. While this was expressly due to military reasons, the ban covered commercial airliners as well. It was lifted a while back – I don’t know exactly when – but by then Japan was far behind Boeing and Airbus. In recent years Mitsubishi has been trying to launch a domestically-developed and sourced passenger jet, but I don’t think that’s gotten off the ground. I always thought it was a shame that Japan wasn’t allowed to make its own jets, because then it could presumably parlay its penchant for making reliable cars and machines to flying objects like planes.
I think their reputation for making nice, highly-coveted products is probably rooted in culture; historically, they were known for their high-quality porcelain, silks, lacquerware, furniture and paper – things that the Chinese, who invented these things (well not furniture, but the style), were also well-known for. That’s why I think that attributing China’s success in industry to their ‘authoritarian’ system is not quite right, or at least isn’t telling the whole story. Both the Chinese and Japanese seem to share a cultural penchant for conscientiousness, detail and complexity. In hard industries like aviation, auto, and machinery, it helps to have even the lowliest workers coming from a culture like that.

I’ve been working in the same manufacturing facility for the last thirty years. I have seen the decline in human capital first hand. When hired, most all the supervisors had technical degrees. There was a deep staff of professional engineers, and fully manned tool and die shop with 30 skilled toolmakers. The work force on the floor had one ADOS black and one Albanian. The rest were working class white folks who knew their business.
Now, two of the supervisors are third world immigrants witn no technical knowledge. There are a handful of young engineers of modest talent and intelligence. The die mold shop is down to eight white men, fify years or older. No young talent. The work force is half African asylum seekers and a smattering of diligent Cambodians and Vietnamese. Every dot Indian we’ve hired has turned out to be an incompetent weasily dud, except one woman, who is incompetent, but personable.
The company no longer designed and sells its own products. It can no longer produce its own tooling. Trying to find talent is almost impossible. Oh, and we have one fat guy who says he’s a girl and insists on using the women’s bathrooms. He calls himself ‘Tina”. The state says we have to acoomodate the bum.

Mitsubishi worked on the MRJ, a regional jet airliner comparable to the Embraer E2 series. The project had ridiculous delays and seems to have been canceled. It was one of a group of modern regional aircraft programs including the Airbus A220, Sukhoi Superjet and the MRJ which all had major issues and delays. This allowed Embraer to bring out the E2. In the recent past Kawasaki developed a four engine jet called the P-1 which is a submarine hunter. The company also builds a military airlift aircraft called the C-2. I rank the Japanese aerospace industry as fourth in the Western world after the USA, the UK, and France and ahead of Canada, Germany and Italy.
We are very unlikely to help Japan.

Chinese made airplanes won’t resolve the problem of DEI hires taking over the ATC profession in the US. Not much use for a well functioning plane if it gets directed straight into a ditch by people who couldn’t pass the basic ATC competence tests previously but are now waived through because of what’s between their legs and the color of their skin. How did we get here?

Actually China did design the ARJ21 and C919 with many western components because they designed the planes 15 years ago when relations were good with the west. Airbus for example has lots of Chinese suppliers and actually does final assembly in China. The US got mad at Macron last year when he went and said Airbus would expand further in China.
Russia designed the MC21 originally that way too but changed. Currently it is delayed because they aren’t going to use any western engines as planned. Their Russian engine is testing. That said – China should buy the MC21 since the US and EU are so hostile now.
Mitsubishi cancelled their regional jet project a few years ago (comparable to the ARJ 21). Whether it is because of their rapidly shrinking population doesn’t have the engineering talent anymore – or coercive pressure from the US – I don’t know.
And yes you are correct about history and the Japanese learning many crafts from China. But yeah history has been re-written post WW2 to hide that fact. What’s going on now is simply a return to the natural order in East Asia when China was always ahead of Japan – until the late 1800’s.
