There were 461 arrests in 2017 for murder offenses. This is a 14.4 percent increase from the 403 arrests the previous year. Persons arrested for murder offenses in 2017 were predominantly male (87.0 percent), Black (60.3 percent), and 25 years of age and older (59.4 percent).
Though blacks are 10 percent of the population, they represented 60 percent of the arrests for homicide in the state of Pennsylvania in 2017.
